IDENTITY
AND CIVILIZATION
I love and interest in the beauty of Thais Identity more than duplicating each other and finally nobody knew the identity, what the significance in our bloods and more important than that it was to present foreigners, who were visiting us, Thailand, could understand what Thais Identity and Civilization since former times. Just seeing, even no describing; they could realize that this Glass Civilization created by Mr. Jirawatn Chavanatit aimed to build the identity by combining Thai Arts with the Arts of Glass in Europe which no one could duplicate.
Every sculpture was processed on Thought, Decreasing and Engraving by hands and piece by piece. By occasions, this splendid sculpture would be dedicated to His Majesty the King and owned to be the property of lands and hope that the people would recognize, love and understand Thai Glass creatively. That’s not easy to do that. He realized that his Glass sculptures, designed and created in different places, Hotels, Offices and Houses, even were gorgeous, elegant and modernized, there would nobody know those created by Thai person who had tried to create the arts of glass with more than 25 years, but without its identity.
Most people might think that foreigners created and the meanwhile if knowing that Thai person make it, then would think do copy from foreigners. These thoughts always were embedded in Mr. Jirawatn and he would like to make it happen to let others recognize arts and civilization of Thai Glass created and made by Thai person.
And then in year 2007, I received the invitation from Mr. Victor Sukseree, served as General Manager of Dusit Thani Hotel Huahin which would like me to create the arts of glass to present to the honor Guests and the visitors who would make a merit in Charity the Master Glass Exhibition. That’s the beginning of using Thai Trims, Kanok, to combine with Art of Glass in this exhibition. After that, there were the master pieces “Ice Naga”, splendid, glace and delicate like Thai’s characteristics. In the meanwhile, there was the contradictory vividly, the strength embedded in the blood with the delicate and gorgeous.
As foreigners’ overview on Thais, this was the beginning and afterwards, let Mr. Jirawatn have an opportunity to create, work and present his master pieces, Ice Naga, in both of domestics and international, served as Thai Artisan with his Glass Sculptures and Thai Glass Civilization.
ที่มาของจัดแสดง Art Exhibition งานประติมากรรมแก้วในชุด ice Naga คุณจิรวัฒนได้นำศิลปะไทยชั้นสูงที่มีมาแต่โบราณ ลายกนก และเรือนร่างความสง่างามพริ้วไหวของพญานาค มาผสมกับศิลปะการทำแก้วที่ คุณจิรวัฒนได้สั่งสมเรียนรู้ จากอารยะธรรม การทำแก้วของยุโรปที่มีมายาวนานกว่า1,000 ปี ซึ่งได้ใช้เวลากว่า 25 ปี ในการเรียนรู้ สั่งสม ซึ่งเป็นโจทย์ที่อยาก ที่จะให้คนไทยที่เห็นผลงานของคนไทย รักและสนใจความงามของชาติ ที่มีอัตลักษณ์ มากกว่าไปนั่งทำตามแบบอย่างกัน ลอกเลียนกันไปมาจนไม่รู้ว่าอะไรคือ อัตลักษณ์ อะไรคือสิ่งที่อยู่ในสายเลือดของตัวเอง และที่สำคัญไปมากกว่านั้น อยากให้ชาวต่างชาติที่เข้ามาเยี่ยมชมเข้าใจถึงอัตลักษณ์ และอารยะของศิลปะของชาติที่มีมาแต่โบราณกาลเพียงแค่ได้เห็น แม้ไม่มีใครอธิบาย ก็จะตระหนักได้ดีว่านี่คือ วัฒนธรรมแก้วของประเทศ ที่คุณจิรวัฒน ตั้งใจสร้างอัตลักษณ์ โดยผสมศิลปะของชาติ เข้ากับศาสตร์การทำแก้วในยุโรปที่ไม่มีใคร ชนชาติใด ลอกเลียนไปได้ โดยตั้งใจสร้างสรรค์ประติมากรรมแต่ละชิ้น ผ่านขั้นตอนการคิด ตัดทอน สลักเสลา ด้วยมือทีละชิ้นทีละชั้น เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ความงดงามของประติมากรรมในแต่ละชิ้นเพื่อ ถวายแด่องค์พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว และเป็นสมบัติแผ่นดิน ด้วยหวังให้คนได้รู้จัก รักและ เข้าใจความงามของแก้วในแบบไทยที่ได้บรรจงสร้างสรรค์ให้เกิดขึ้น ซึ่งนั่นไม่ใช่เรื่องง่าย
คุณจิรวัฒนทราบดีว่า ผลงานประติมากรรมแก้วของเขา ที่ออกแบบในที่ต่างๆไม่ว่าจะเป็นโรงแรม สำนักงาน บ้านพักอาศัย แม้ว่าจะมีรูปแบบสวย งดงาม ดูสมัยใหม่ แต่ก็ไม่มีใครรู้เลยว่านั่นคือฝีมือคนไทยคนหนึ่ง ที่มีความพยายามสร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะที่สร้างสรรค์จากแก้วมากว่า 20 ปี แต่กลับไม่มีอัตลักษณ์ คนส่วนใหญ่ที่ได้เห็นมักจะคิดว่าฝรั่งออกแบบ ในขนาดเดียวกันถ้ารู้ว่าเป็นคนไทยทำ ก็จะคิดว่าก๊อบปี้ฝรั่งมา เรื่องเหล่านี้อยู่ในใจคุณจิรวัฒนมาตลอด ว่าเมื่อไหร่จะทำงานให้คนรู้จักว่านี่คือ ศิลปะและอารยะธรรมแก้วของไทย ที่สร้างโดยคนไทย
และจุดเริ่มต้นก็มาถึง ในปี 2007 คุณจิรวัฒน ได้รับคำเชื้อเชิญ และให้โอกาสจากคุณวิคเตอร์ สุขเสรี ผู้บริหารโรงแรมดุสิตธานี หัวหิน อยากให้คุณจิรวัฒน สร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะเพื่อแสดงให้แขกผู้มีเกียรติ และผู้สนใจเข้ามาร่วมชมและร่วมทำบุญ ในงาน charity Art glass Exhibition นั่นเป็นจุดเริ่มต้น ของการนำลายกนกไทยแบบโบราณมาผสมกับศิลปะแก้วที่จัดแสดงในครั้งนั้น จนเกิดผลงานชุด ice Naga ที่มีความงดงาม อ่อนโยน อ่อนช้อย แบบนิสัยของคนไทย ในขนาดเดียวกันก็มีความเฉียบคม เฉียบขาด แวววาว สะท้อนความอัตลักษณ์ความงาม และอารยะแบบไทย ที่มีความเข้มแข็ง เฉียบคม เฉียบขาดเช่นกัน แสดงถึงความเข้มแข็งที่มีอยู่ในสายเลือด ภายใต้ความอ่อนโยน งดงาม ตามที่ต่างชาติมองเห็นในคนไทย นี่คือจุดเริ่มต้นและที่ต่อมาได้นำพาให้คุณจิรวัฒน ได้สร้างสรรค์ ทำงาน อวดโฉมผลงานประติมากรรมชุด ice Naga นี้ไปทั้งในและต่างประเทศ ในฐานะศิลปินไทย กับผลงานประติมากรรมแก้วของเขา กับวัฒนธรรมแก้วของชาติ
